| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Plenty of plowed parking at Ferncroft. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth, Wet Trail, Ice - Blue, Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Standing/Running Water on Trail |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Light Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
The one crossing was manageable via the birch balance beam or by using rocks - some above water and icy, others submerged. Water resistant boots are helpful for the latter. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
I did not notice any blowdowns. Brushing generally seemed quite good. Signage seemed fine, though I think there used to be a sign pointing to the short spur path to the summit - I did not notice it today. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
One dog seen on trail, whose human companion had supplied with a winter coat. |
|
| Bugs: |
None |
|
| Lost and Found: |
Nothing to report. |

| Comments: |
The trail had a little snow from recent flurry activity -- more as one ascended -- but probably not much more than an inch or so. Mostly, a mix of snow, ice, and rock. Lots of flowing water, low down and also above the Rollins Trail. I opted for microspikes for the ascent from the stream crossing; I switched to sharper Hillsounds for about half of the descent. The section of the trail on the "cone" of Passaconaway seemed to be the rockiest, and a bit awkward. The iciest single spot seemed to be just below the "ledge" as one gets pretty close to the summit spur. The ledge itself was not too bad today. I saw about a dozen other hikers on the trail. At least one also trekked over to and back from Whiteface, and had nothing extraordinary to report. A couple who had come up Blueberry Ledge Trail noted that it was quite icy and challenging in places. |
