Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Park on 16 at the railroad bridge. Take the walkway on the lower deck of the bridge to cross the river. Walk across a road and you'll see an "AMC TRAIL" sign pointing left. Don't go left. Instead, climb up the steep embankment to get to the rail trail. Follow the rail trail a long ways across the island and then over a bridge to cross the canal. Take a right onto a trail immediately after the canal, and then bear right at a sign. Follow this trail until it pops out onto a road at some power lines. There is a tiny sign here telling you to turn right. Turn right and follow the road almost to the dam, where you'll see the Mahoosuc Trail on the left. There is no parking at the actual trailhead. It's about a mile from NH 16 to the trailhead.

Comments
Comments: Much more mud than snow almost all the way up the trail. The snow only begins to gain any depth around the very short spring spur trail. There are also stretches of hidden ice starting here as well. I barebooted all the way up, but the spring spur would be a good place to add spikes. I never wanted snowshoes. When the trail makes a sharp left turn at some ledges, go straight to the ledges or you'll be left wondering where the "...with a view" is.
