| Comments: |
The morning hike up was solid, with a trailhead temperature just above 20 degrees. By afternoon, areas that had been ice in the morning had all turned to water. Up on Eisenhower itself, the wind was quite fierce, and the ice was solid enough that microspikes wouldn't always cut into it. Snowshoes weren't necessary, but people who wanted to be extra cautious might want to bring full crampons. I made it up and down with just microspikes, though. The trail was quite crowded today as people were taking advantage of the mild temperatures. Most were just going to Pierce, but a fair number moved on to Eisenhower as well. I think the takeaway from today is go early so as to avoid the melt as much as possible. |
