I know it’s going to rain (a lot) tonight and tomorrow. Zealand road was very melted around 1pm when I wrapped up, little snow remained on the road. I’d be surprised if any snow remains after the rain and warm weather.
From the trailhead to about 3000’, near the switchbacks, the trail was stable and in decent shape, it got a little slushy on the descent but seemed to be well packed.
From 3000’ to the summit was a mess. Snow was blown over the trail in a few spots, I broke trail as best I could. The snow on the trees at the higher elevation was melting worse than the lower ones plus there was a lot of mist in the air so the snow was quickly turning into wet cement. Conditions were actually more slushy and messier higher on the trail. Good luck to whoever the next person is to hike this after the storm. |
