Top to bottom full snow pack this morning, prior to the incoming rain storm.
Trail is well packed with no ice to speak of up to the ridge. At the split, the Sosman Trail (left) is packed out, but the Mt. Tecumseh Trail (right) only has partial boot packing/postholes, and one of the scrambles is a little icy. I carried spikes and snowshoes, but was able to bareboot roundtrip without any postholing, as temperatures had not climbed much yet (snow texture was starting to change later in the morning; a few degrees warmer and the snowshoes would have gone on up high).
Decent snowshoe conditions above 3,000 feet. Areas with stairs have filled in nicely, but the un-stepped areas below still have protruding rocks, etc. There's about a foot of snowpack down low, but a couple of feet higher up. If I were to go up here after the incoming weather, I would carry spikes for down low and bring snowshoes for up high.
Cloudy morning with the upper elevations in the fog. Mild temperatures but no rain yet. A little wind up top. Still some empty ski area parking lots and the base area didn't look overly busy. |
