Comments
Comments: I arrived at 7am and was the first one there. I decided to wear snow shoes from the start, and packed my spikes so I could change if snow shoes were overkill. There was some fresh snow from yesterday and this morning, about an inch down low and a few inches up higher. Trail was packed and icy under the fresh snow, so traction definitely recommended. Shortly after I started, a hiker came up behind me and passed me, he was wearing spikes. Between Starr King and Waumbek, the trail was softer. Although spikes would have technically been fine today, I was happy that I wore snow shoes. I ended up leaving them on out and back. On my descent there were a total of 13 hikers heading up, most in spikes. The trail was softer on the way down and parts were getting pretty messed up. In the parking lot there were about 4 more hikers heading up, all in spikes.
