Wore snowshoes from the start, although it was a bit boney down low. Micos would have been okay, but we felt better in snowshoes and liked using the heel lifters. There was about 2 inches of fresh snow.
Above the quarter mile sign (below Liberty Springs tent site), snowshoes were definitely needed with many drifts, and most people we saw wore them from here up to Liberty. Trail looked untouched towards Haystack (even though people broke it out last weekend). We broke trail to Flume, and saw a couple people who has come up from the Osseo Trail. On the descent, we switched to micospikes after the quarter mile sign below Liberty Springs tent site. Trail was packed well from this point. |
