Excellent solstice hike. The ammo was nicely packed with a few bony places but the trail was in great shape otherwise. There were a few sections of drifting heading up the cone but the deepest section of snow was coming down the cog trail (service road). We carried snowshoes but there were too many bare rocks to warrant using them. Many interesting clouds, from low lying to sock drawer views on Monroe summit - then the curtain was drawn we had a clear summit on Big George until we headed down. Hardly any winds, what a treat! Did not seem like winter. Worn Hillsounds trail crampons from start to finish. Super day. |
