Comments
Comments: A fine Presi day to start the winter. I hope there are many more like it from now 'til March 20. Today I was able to bareboot all the way to Eisenhower, tip-toeing around a few icy spots. I opted to wear microspikes for the descent. CP to WCT was well packed, with just a skiff of snow from late yesterday. CP on ridge was a mix of early season conditions - some bare-ish spots, a mostly adequately packed footway, and a few shallow drifts, none of which were conducive to postholing. Carried snowshoes and crampons, but did not see the need to use either today. With the start of winter, here is a shout-out of thanks to those who maintain the trails, those with experience who gladly share their knowledge with others less skilled in mountain craft, and those search and rescue professionals - paid and volunteer - who stand by to help when lack of luck or lack of judgement lead to mishaps. Best wishes to all for a safe and enjoyable winter.
