| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Jefferson Notch Road is open still, somehow. I was half tempted to try it. Base Station Road is plowed but a bit greasy. USFS (Ammo) has been plowed and the restrooms are open and stocked. I heard that Cog was also plowed, but I will never pay that guy $10 bucks for 0.9 miles. Also of note, only in the north country will you randomly find a burned out vehicle dumped - on base station road, right at the intersection of jefferson notch road. |

| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
I can rest easy, unlike 2020, some things never do change. The soon to be winter winds have already taken down the Sphnix trail sign at the junction, and the force has cracked the bigger sign in two. I have reached out to that maintainer already. A few up and overs or army man crawl unders near the beginning of Jewell by USFS lot, a few others along Jewell, all hand saw worthy. |

WEAR YOUR SNOWSHOES.
Mini Gridiot milestone. #350 :)If you stayed home on Saturday - you missed a stunner of a stolen day. A glorious, and huge sundog was noted above Monroe, as well as amazing sastrugi around Clay. A huge inversion layer was overhead and despite it being -4 in the parking lot, it was 22.5 degrees on Wash at the same time. Warm temps, a light breeze, and low dew points contribured to commanding 90+ mile views. Jewell to Jewell Link was rough broke, then from there to treeline was a proper and lovely snowshoe sidewalk (Thanks Raggle & co, we where the trio that you around Sphinx Col). These favorable trail conditions where absolutely destroyed by the end of the day by bare boots and Postholio - who could not have been having fun going "balls deep" more than a few times. Trail firms up once it enters treeline and minor rototilling was all of note. We wore snowshoes the entire day. Above treeline was a mix of boney, rock, and wind drifted snow. There was no 'right' piece of footwear, unless you brought up your hovercraft. |
