First hike up this trail. The Nor'Easter on Thursday put 18"+ of nice loose powder down. Trail was broken in for the first mile and I broke in the next mile or so up to Pike's Peak. Still a lot of loose powder so snowshoes needed still. All rocks and roots are well covered now. Did not go the final stretch to the summit, so unclear how the steeper ledges I read about are with the snow. Markers are generally OK (mix of old blue blazes, yellow blazes, and newer yellow plastic discs) and with the now broken trail should be easy to navigate, but there were a few stretches in the upper half that had me guessing on trail location in the fresh snow. All in all a good snowshoe outing...about 2 hrs up to Pike's and an hour getting down. |
