Comments
Comments: I did the loop clockwise from the north lot. Temp was 0*F when I arrived at 8am. Snow was trace in conifer forests in lower elevations, a few inches deeper in open deciduous areas. I wore snowshoes for basically the whole hike, I took them off just at the end for the 0.3mi road walk along Rt. 16.

Looks like someone broke trail yesterday up to the ledges, but only some postholes past there to the junction with North Carter Trail. I set a decent snowshoe track for the unbroken section. Some people had barefooted up the south side of the loop and it was quite messy. The snow isn’t consolidated enough to barefoot above ~2000ft. Please use snowshoes if you are hiking in the next few days, it was annoying dealing with postholes in the unbroken section! Lower down, snowshoeing is bony in spots with rocks that aren’t fully covered by snow.

It was calm and pleasant at the ledges today, with almost clear skies and perfect views of the the north presidentials. Such a perfect winter wonderland! It warmed up to mid-20s when I got back to my car.
