Comments
Comments: SNOWSHOE season has arrived. We wore ours roundtrip and were glad to have them.

Lonesome Lake Trail was well packed with a few bony sections, but not ice of significance. On the ascent, we took the Cascade Brook Trail around the lake, but crossed the lake in the afternoon without issue (seemed solid with no slush or water showing).

Lonesome Lake hut is boarded up/closed.

Fishin' Jimmy Trail was reasonable packed this morning and more so in the afternoon. Bony in some places. The various blue ice scrambles were increasingly difficult in the afternoon due to Microspikers sliding off and taking the snow with them. Tubbs Flex Alps snowshoes were able to get purchase in the ice.

Good going on the Kinsman Ridge Trail. The scrambles are not filled in yet, but were doable without issue with Flex Alps. Noted Mt. Kinsman Trail and Kinsman Ridge northbound had snowshoe tracks.

Between the peaks was not well consolidated. Most folks we saw were snowshoeing, but a few Massachusetts Microspikers were leaving occasional postholes/divets in the powder footbed. They also were unable to get far off the trail to "socially distance" or to go to the bathroom (some were going on the trail, yuck).

Subzero on the drive up, but there appeared to be a temperature inversion, as it was much warmer climbing out of the notch (though still below freezing). Only about 6-12" of new powder (perhaps more on the ridge) from this week's storm (whereas we picked up 2-3 feet in parts of the Lakes Region). Beautiful blue skies this morning/early afternoon without a hint of wind.
