No snow at the bottom. Trail was well traveled and well packed. Wet spots come and go for the first 2 miles. Snow didn't start until around 2000 ft and it was very crunchy and packed down. I tried to go for sunrise, but the view looks southwest. Plenty of footprints coming up Brunel Trail from the Kanc as well. Snow was a couple of inches deep max on the packed down trail, maybe 6-8 inches to the side of the trail. I put on spikes going down from Tremont to Owl's Cliff and kept them on until the first stream crossing. I was fine in trailrunners and snowshoes are not needed at all. I passed a group of 5 heading up as I was descending Tremont and that was it. The switchbacks going up Tremont are killer, though. You can see the peak and you assume it'll be not much longer until the summit, but then it's back and forth back and forth forever. Beautiful views from both Tremont and Owl's Cliff! |
