Arlene Francis Morse Trail, Robert A Greenwood Sr Loop (attempt), Mary Jane Morse Greenwood (attempt)
This trail started off mellow enough as it is a fairly easy climb to the summit. It quickly gave way to a blocked trail caused by the heavy snow weighing down saplings creating a tunnel effect that was mostly impassible in the middle section. Evidence of prior snowshoeing and post-holing made for some kind of path, although it was mostly a bushwhack adjacent to the trail. The upper section above the Robert A Greenwood Sr Loop junction increased in snow depth due to wind drift, with water from recent melt coming down the trail. A post-holed path made for difficult progress on a normally easy hike. Beautiful summit view of the southern side of the Naps and Alton Bay. I started a descent of MJ and Robert Greenwood loop, however both were unbroken or mildly post-holed and sunlight was fading. |
