Comments
Comments: Walked a gated but plowed FR106 to its jct with unplowed FR105.
Followed FR105 to 1900' where we started bw to Round. Soon encountered 2 slow flowing brooks that we were eventually able to cross.Recognized summit easily found.
Followed our tracks back to FR where we started up Deer Ridge. Contrary to bw to Round, all evergreens to Deer Ridge significantly covered with snow. Summit area is broad and sparsely treed with all trees plastered with snow. If there's a register up there, we didn't find it. It was well hidden.
Breaking effort on bw - minimal. Snow cover 2-4" on Round, 4-8" on Deer Ridge
Grades - always easy to Round, mostly moderate to Deer Ridge
Vegetation - open to wide open woods to both summits. However we were constantly plagued by those annoying short hardwoods that the moose eat the branch tips.
