Out and back via the Carter-Moriah Trail. I wore snowshoes start to finish, and very happy with that decision! Perhaps could get away without up to Surprise, but in my point of view, they should be worn. Absolutely needed from Surprise to Moriah. Trail was easy to follow, even though there has been very little traffic from Surprise to Moriah. Light, fluffy snow, and some of the rocky areas had some ice under the snow. Met two solo hikers who had come up via Stony Brook, and on my descent passed a total of 4 hikers heading up. Was an absolutely gorgeous day, with amazing views of The Presidentials!!! |
