Comments
Comments: It was a great day to get the Osceolas done. Barebooted to where the steeps started after the tree that grows horizontally and marks the beginning of the steeps. There I put on Hillsounds. There was not enough snow and the trail was still very boney. Past the shoulder up to East Peak the snow depth had been snowshoed but there was little evidence as drifting snow had filled in the trough. Chris Dailey did use his running snowshoes from there up to Osceola and back to the shoulder. Three other hikers ahead of me barebooted packing out the trail pretty well. Some used the bypass to the Chimney and the bypass to the bypass. The snow had stayed powdrey and spikes worked very well going up and down the steeps. The Greeley Ponds trail had soft/wet snow on the return as the temps had gone up a lot. With rain in the forecast it might become a very icy trail later on. Glad to meet Al Aldrich and his friend Tom and also meet Dillon, who had done the AT a year ago unsupported in 100 days.
