the snow right now is fluffy and loose with just a little packed base. Started out with snowshoes on but quickly removed and carried them, using micro spikes, since it was solid enough to do so. Once you get past the water and head straight up it becomes very challenging since the snow is so dry and still loose, these not much to grip with spikes and its very much like spring season mashed potatoes hiking- exhausting. A lot of slipping and sliding. Planned to do a loop over to Lafayette and down, but turned around at the ridge and went back the same way because I was spent and the ridge was socked in with sideways snow blowing. |
