It was a great day out. This was #48 for my autumn list. For some reason, I decided to bag Walden trail and Old Mast Road for my redline, rather than spend about a tenth of the time and effort racing up Dicey's Mill trail. Instead of a fairly easy trail, I had a massive grind. But there it is: type II fun. The day was quite sunny, which makes up for a lot of struggle.
Right now, the snow is powdery, greasy, and unconsolidated. Dicey's Mill got some loving from 1-2 snowshoers. I wouldn't call it a monorail per se, because the cover is *maybe* 2 inches deep. That said, I was wearing Hillsound lightweight crampons, with the anti-balling plates, and strangely, I was skiing down the trail on those anti-balling plates. You might want snowshoes just for traction (I know I did!) because anything else likely won't cut it.
Pictures and a more detailed write-up are on my blog, as always. Enjoy, and perhaps consider subscribing! |
