| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
We didn’t bother trying to get our cars up the road although a minivan got to the trailhead so any AWD probably can. The winter lot almost directly across from Starr King Rd was not plowed so we parked at the lot next to the gas station. A half dozen plus spots that look like “hiker spots†in front of the monument and set aside from the gas station. I think our four cars were the only hikers there...maybe one or two other cars at 3:00-3:15pm. |

Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth, Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular |

Snowshoes |

|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
No blowdowns to note. The trail is regularly blazed in yellow and easy to follow particularly since someone had already broken trail. Best I could tell, the broken trail followed the true trail. Would probably be harder to follow breaking trail. |

| Dog-Related Notes: |
Would be a pretty cold hike for a dog but if it’s got booties and a jacket (and good night vision;) then I imagine they could do it! |

A great afternoon/evening hike with three fellow hikers. This was my 4th 4000 footer this month and my 11th total for November. 37 more to go. We started met at the lot by the Irving between 3:00-3:15pm and started up at the trailhead just past 3:30pm. Sort of split up into two groups on the way down but got there around 8:30pm so it took us about 5hrs. 22F when we started and around 18F when we finished. We were lucky to not feel any wind though and I hiked most of the way up in just a short sleeve shirt and a rain jacket/hard shell.
No breaking of trail necessary. It was broken by a fellow gridder the night before but a lot of people must’ve gotten out today because the trail was well packed. I figured that the ridge between Starr King and Waumbek would have drifted over but it was not. Probably helped that we saw one guy coming down as we were headed up. That said, I’d still recommend snowshoes although it may be solid enough now. We put our snowshoes on at the trailhead and left them on until we were back at the trailhead. Better snow coverage here than on Carrigain the day before. Still some rocks and such poking out but not as much mud and other muck mixed in as there was on Carrigain. We definitely got more snow here. Saw lots of snowshoe hare tracks. |
