Broke trail on the Hancocks on Sunday. Shoulder season conditions are weird right now. No ice yet, parts of the trail had running water, about 6+ inches of powder we broke trail through. Under the powder is all tree roots, rocks, will be much better when this snow pack freezes over all of that. Used microspikes for the last 3 miles out. Most snow was in between North and South Hancock. I lost my black kahtoola microspike going up north hancock. Would love to be re-united with it, if you find! Water crossings were all do-able but be careful for false positives on some spots it looked like it was frozen ice or a rock and safe to step on. Went in the water a couple times. Was very grateful to be wearing full winter boots and gaiters. |
