Well, I’ll add this adventure to the list of “attempt†reports for today. Started way too late, encountered way more snow than expected. Thanks to the crew of four who broke out the beginning of the trail, who I passed around 2 miles in.
I ended up getting to within about a mile of the the summit before surrendering.. Lessons learned, it was a beautiful day in the fluffy snow. Next time I’ll start before 10:30. Started with around 3-4†of snow at the trailhead, where I turned around at 3200’ there was close to 2 ft. and more in drifts.
One thing I do want to note for future hikers: where there are bog bridges around 3 miles up, via trekking poles it feels as if there is still soft mud beneath the snow on either side, that hasn’t frozen yet. I know from being here last week that said mud is quite deep, so take care here! |
