Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The crossings of Thompson and Spruce Brooks proved extremely tricky today. Doable, but I went in - and that was the end of our day unfortunately. Route finding was tricky and significantly slowed us. I only remembered after the fact, you can follow Thompson Brook south east and then a slight whack will bring you to and old snomo trail - WITH A BRIDGE - thus negating any crossings.

Comments: WEAR YOUR SNOWSHOES.

A fine day in the forest, even though it was an attempt. A task too tall for two trampers today. Garfield lot as mentioned was not plowed, but was doable for me, snow level was high enough the door scraped it when I opened it. About 8" on Gale River Road, less on the trail in the protected spruce areas. Snowshoes went on at the car and stayed on until our return. Multiple folks out barebooting with no snowshoes. What is wrong with you?! We rough broke behind a bare booter on the roadwalk, and then broke out about 1.5 miles of Mt Garfield Trail.

Trail corridor was very ambigious in spots due to heavy snow laden trees, so even though I have been on this trail several times, route finding was difficult. We turned back a little after the multiple brook crossings - which took us a lot of time to find a way around the multiple crossings of Spruce and Thompson Brooks. As mentioned above, if you know were to look, there is an old SnoMo corridor with a bridge to negate any crossings. The brooks are a bit high and not froze up yet. Given the increasing snow depth even down low and miles of breaking ahead, we chose to call it early. All in all a great day with lovely intimate views. The summit will be there next time....
