Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: No crossings on this route. Clear evidence that feet would be more wet in Spring.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Several blowdowns on the wooded section of Slippery Brook Trail. Otherwise in good condition with limited erosion. The wooded section has a more wilderness feel. Blazes only on Eastman Trail, none on Slippery Brook, but trail easy to follow.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Good route for dogs that can do the distance, though they will get muddy. Gentle grades throughout. On this day, we only saw Tuckerman the hiking dog.
Bugs
Bugs: A few late season flyers, none bothering.

Comments
Comments: We chose to approach from the less used Slippery Brook side, and loved it. Parking is easy. Grades are gentle. Trail easy to follow. Views from Eastman quite good. Trail was wet as normal this time of year, but no water crossings. Mud was present but avoidable. Beautiful open woods throughout. The listed 'scrambles' on Eastman are few and quite mild -- I thought the scrambles on nearby Caribou Mountain were a bit more rough.

I was concerned of ice near the summit, but found only a few easily avoidable patches. Only a few dots of snow in the woods above 2500', otherwise none. Despite 9.5 miles distance, this hikes quick -- we finished in 5:40, including 30+ minutes at the summit.

If you seek solace, quiet, and peace in the woods, do this hike.
