 | Comments: |
Spikes went on about 1/2 mile in. Slippery black ice for much of the first 1.8 miles to Cedar Brook junction. Patchy black ice (more mud) between there and Hancock Loop. Spikes on/off for the 1.1 to the North/South split. Good traction needed up North especially from about 1/2 mile before North peak all the way across the ridge until about 1/3 mile down South peak - lots of thick unavoidable ice. I imagine there will be more ice overall due to below freezing temps for tonight and tomorrow/Saturday. Definitely take your good/aggressive spikes if you go Saturday. If you are extra cautious or have knee issues on the steeps you might want full crampons. |
