Comments
Comments: A really fun whacko day on Moosilauke. Ms. Mix-a-lot needed for her grid, I needed for my 48B (48 bushwhack), so we split the difference. Trails overall are in great shape. Took several old/abandoned trails down low to spice up the day. On the fly, I floated the idea of looking for an abandoned trail in the 1976 guidebook (long abandoned by then, though) that I had read about and had a 'rough idea' where it was. She obliged. We missed the one we where looking for, but found several old slides that nature has completely reclaimed. We criss-crossed between two of them, finding delightful, but steep, woods. We popped out on the Carriage Trail at about 4200, slightly below the 'lemon squeezer.' Spikes went on mid way through the way to dig into the frozen dirt and stayed on till about 3600 on Gorge Brook. A virtually windless day on the summit, not much in the realm of views, but that's not why I hike. It brought both of us to ten summits each for the Gentle Giant. Here's to ten more! Noted one incredibly unprepared quintent with 1 pack between them ascending GBT at 1300. No headlamps, food, or water, and in shorts & tennis shoes... Seriously?
