Boots. You know you want to wear them. You know you do! 👠Well, it's time. I wore trailrunners today to just get one more hike in with the luxury of light feet. I survived, but boots are definitely the right answer at this point. Lots of hard ice on the trail up high. I put spikes on just above the switchbacks, but kept them on during the descent until below the switchbacks just after that one brook crossing higher up. Those brook rocks had a slick glaze of clear ice, providing a special kind of terror if you put a foot wrong. I was warmest today on the summit, as the sun punched through bright just at that point, and there was no wind. Was nice to have a drama-free change into dry tops for the descent. |
