Trails
Trails: North Twin Trail, North Twin Spur
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, November 21, 2020
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: There were a lot of cars. Be aware that the Haystack Road gate closes later in the year.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Wet Trail, Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Wet/Slippery Rock, Ice - Breakable Crust, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Stable), Snow - Wet/Sticky, Slush, Snow/Ice - Small Patches
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: There were three river crossings that were very deep in some parts. I recommend waterproof shoes so that if you soak your foot, you will be fine.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There were a few blowdowns on the trail. It was also very wet in some parts and needed draining.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: There were lots of friendly dogs on the trail. Please keep you furry friend(s) leashed so that they don't trample on the pretty mosses/plants. I recommend the trails for your larger dogs. For smaller dogs, it may be a bit challenging.
Bugs
Bugs: WE only saw one little fly on the snow at 4,650 ft. on South Twin. It seemed as if it were about to die.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: My Dad lost the tip of his pole.

Comments
Comments: There was so much trash on the trail. We picked up: a hair elastic, a disposable mask, a fruit snack wrapper, a CLIF BAR wrapper, and lots of other trash. We also saw used toilet paper (YUCK) on the trail. PLEASE do not leave trash on the trail! The hike was fun but cold. You NEED gloves/mittens, a hat, a coat, and MICRO SPIKES. There were clouds all around us at first, but then they lifted to reveal an astounding view! You could see Garfield, Owl's head, Liberty, Flume, Lincoln, Lafayete, Zealand, Little Haystack, and so much more! (These spectacular views were from South Twin). This hike was really fun! I climbed the peak with my older brother, Summit Seeker. Thank you for reading this report!
