Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Brook crossing on Oliverian Brook Trail easy rock hop. Brook crossing on Passaconaway Cut-Off just downstream of official pathway on rocks (some small and some slightly submerged). This crossing may be difficult in high water. Tree angled diagonally over Passaconaway Cut-Off at 5 to 6 feet above surface. No problem today but may be difficult with a snow pack. The trail has been widened near the beginning of the Oliverian Trail with the removal of trees close to the pathway.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: One evergreen across Walden Trail at about 3 foot above surface just downhill of junction with East Loop. This will be easier to get by with a snow pack.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: OK if dog comfortable going up icy ledges

Comments
Comments: Oliverian Brook Trail and most of the Passaconaway Cut-Off were free of snow and ice. The first ice I saw was on the small ledges near the top of the Passaconaway Cut-Off. It posed no difficulty to get by. The lower section of the Square Ledge Trail was much the same as the high part of the Passaconaway Cut-Off (a little ice or snow alternating with bare ground). The upper part of the Square Ledge trail had a more consistent thin film of snow/ice on the surface. The Walden Trail had lots of ice on ascent of the summit cone. Dicey's Mill Trail had an ice flow over the ledge just below the west outlook ledge. East Loop was mostly bare. Microspikes proved adequate for the icy trails on the summit cone.
Good view from the Walden Trail to the lakes south of the White Mtns. I could barely see Mt Tripyramid from the west outlook due to the clouds.
Some intermittent snow flurries during the day.
Only met two people; trail runner and a woman who hiked the Whiteface-Passaconaway loop from Ferncroft.
