Comments
Comments: Forest Road, Brown Ash Swamp Trail (aka as Dickey Notch Trail), bushwhack, Forest

After our morning whack we drove around to Mill Brook Road in Thornton to use the Forest Roads to reach the Brown Ash Swamp Trail, otherwise known as Dickey Notch Trail. We hiked up Forest Road 23, went right and followed the road until it petered out and turned hard right as directed by two blazes and thus the beginning of the trail. Followed the trail not quite to the height of land so we could whack straight at Cone's summit and be north of the knob. We stayed on the ridge just east of the drainage and successfully missed getting cliffed-out. We found a nice ledge with views to the north, wished it wasn't so cloudy. On top we enjoyed the rock bench and took our photos by the most lovely rock cairn and then went a short distance up the old Cone Mt. Trail to the recognized highpoint. We mostly followed our tracks back off the mountain. Fun second whack of they day. Total distance was about 4 miles. Almost back to the car at 3 pm we met two gals headed up to Fisher Mountain and most of the cars were gone.
