| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Usual nice lot. |
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Standing/Running Water on Trail |
| Recommended Equipment: |
| Water Crossing Notes: |
No problems. Most easy rock steps; a few easy rock hops. |
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Trails in good condition overall. Desolation had a couple stepovers and a few small bendovers. Signal Ridge has the usual fair amount of erosion from running water but by today only a small amount of the trail down low had water running in it. |
| Dog-Related Notes: |
The mighty tough little dog loved today's route, with lots of sippin and dippin streams, and a long easy approach on a nice footbed. It is dry once up Desolation all the way to the top and down around 2100'on Signal Ridge. |
| Bugs: |
Plenty of skeeters down low; stop and they swarmed us. Once we were over the notch hardly a one. On Carrigain peak black flies would get you when off the platform. If moving Signal Ridge mid to upper was okay. |

| Comments: |
It is so much nicer to hike Carrigain by way of Carrigian Notch and Desolation; I should have returned the same way. What a nice hike it is. Lots of white and pink lady's slippers nearing the notch and thereafter until heading up on Carrigain.
Met the new Sabbaday Brook trail maintainer at the Notch split off (spraying himself with Deet) and then again on top; he had a bag of trash he picked up just on the peak. Saw 2 others later on our hike down. Otherwise, Pepper had a free run of the trails and loved it.
Great day to be away from the computers at work and the ongoing power outage at home. |
