Parking/Access Road Notes: A few cars at Crawford Connector lot at 6:30 arrival. A few more around 4:15, but still plenty of spots remaining. Mt. Clinton Road is bumpy and pot holey. Didn’t save that much time between lots, better to take the long way around (Rt 302 to Base Station Rd).

Comments
Comments: We took advantage of the mild weather and low winds forecast this weekend to tackle the Southern Presidential Traverse! The Ammonoosic Ravine Trail was relatively easy going until we reached the rock slab and waterfall. Ice was melting but rocks were slick and challenging if you have a slight fear of heights! Crawford Path from Washington to Pierce was mostly dry and easy to traverse. There’s a few patches of snow but didn’t need spikes, just caution. Some muddy patches and wet trail, especially as you get closer to Pierce. Crawford Path trail after Pierce summit was the worst trail of the day with lots of mud and running water. But after 10 miles we hardly noticed :).

Trails were surprisingly quiet today. We met many hikers but no where near the crowds we were expecting. Washington summit was pretty much deserted. Weather was fantastic, hiked in light layers and short sleeves for most of the day. Views were hazy, but stunning.

Lakes of the Clouds hut is closed along with all buildings on Washington Summit. Heard and saw glimpses of the Cog Railroad but it’s only going about halfway up. No bathrooms open at peaks and no water spigots available. Bathrooms at Crawford Connector Trailhead lot were open!

Started with a car spot at the Crawford Connector Trailhead lot and started the hike at the lower Ammonoosic Ravine Trailhead lot. Plenty of parking spaces.
