Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails are mostly in good condition. Saw lots of cleared blowdowns. The trails to the summits of the Hancocks where it is steep has many eroded, sometimes heavily eroded parts. There was one skinny blowdown between the peaks. The bog bridges were great.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw just a few. The trail is rough in some spots and the final approach to either Hancock is significantly steep.
Bugs
Bugs: None.

Comments
Comments: Second time doing the Hancocks. We got a late start but we had the summits almost all to ourselves. The trails had mud that wasn't too deep but was in lots of places on the trail. All the snow/ice we saw was in small patches and certainly did not require traction to cross. We did the loop clockwise (last time we did it CCW), and I think I liked clockwise better. Enjoyed phenomenal evening light views from both peaks and saw Gray Jays at the outlook on Mt. Hancock.

The Hancocks are a great hike with beautiful scenery. What a warm November day to hike them! We ran out of light (fast) on the way down so we put on the headlamps above the split off from Cedar Brook Trail. It was only around 4:30 when it became too dark to easily see the trail. Long way out in the dark and saw two campsites off the trail. We enjoyed gazing at the Milky Way from the parking lot when we returned.
