 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
We parked on the side of the road, off the pavement, next to the gate. On the way out, I noticed there is also a dirt parking lot on the east side of Albany Avenue (Bear Notch Road), just before the gate. |

We had planned earlier this week to do this peak, but found out yesterday that Bear Notch Road was now closed; undaunted, we parked at Bear Notch Road gate in Bartlett and did the road walk to FR 443B near the Notch. Where the FR turned right, we took the old logging road slightly to the left, and left it shortly, aiming for the obvious eastern spine in mostly open woods. Layers and layers of downed crunchy beech leaves that hid holes, rocks, and branches made for careful footing. Near the top, we maneuvered around the cliffs, found the recognized high point and the ledges. We signed in on the top half of the last page of the register; next person may want to bring a new register. For the descent, we followed the spine down almost to the road, picking up an old logging road at one point then leaving it, and coming out on 443B about 0.2 mile east of where we went in to the woods. Great day in the woods with Trekboots. |
