Nice conditions in the morning, but with the melting, the upper Lincoln Brook Trail became a mud fest in the pm, as in, mud that came up and over and into your boots. No one had been up the Brutus since the snow, I guess everyone had been just going up the slide, so I went up and down the Brutus BW, making a better route more to the south on the descent, but it's a non-issue now with the warm temps. Lincoln Woods Trail had a layer of crunchy ice and snow in the morning, but dry conditions in the afternoon. Microspikes were helpful higher up, above the Brutus-Owl's Head Path junction, it was icy in the shade for that section of trail until you reached the ridge; once you hit the ridge, the trail became soft and slushy again. |
