Water Crossing Notes: Rock hopped Whitin Brook fairly easily.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails basically good. Going up Old Paugus, the trail goes up a steep, rocky gully, with no paint blazes that we saw, and which had us wondering if we were on the trail. The rest of the way up the gully did not look promising. Then we noticed an unmarked route off to the right. Exploring that a few feet, it turned out to be where the trail goes and follows the bottom of a tall vertical rock wall for a short ways. Some steep ledge surfaces forced us off into the woods a few feet on the rest of the ascent.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: One, on leash at first, off-leash later, but well-behaved.

Bugs: None

Comments
Comments: Saw nobody else until finishing lunch up top, then just two plus the dog. They overlapped us on the descent on Lawrence. Later encountered a couple low on Cabin. Great, sunny fall day for a hike in the woods. Lots of leaves meant careful steps and made trail hard to pick out at times on Old Paugus Trail. Coming down that way with a headlamp might have been difficult in places.
