Comments
Comments: Based on earlier reports, we too took a direct bearing toward the summit from our parking spot. This put us directly under a massive cliff band and boulder field. We continued in a southerly direction scabbing along the cliffs without finding a good place to ascend. Finally got to a drainage and managed to gain some elevation leading to the bump west of the summit. Crossing the col toward the summit we ran into another cliff and ended up slabbing completely around to the south and making our way up to the southeasterly end of the ridge. Found the privy and cabin and then the tower remains. The jar was broken and register nowhere to be found. I hung a new register. Descending, we dropped off directly behind the privy finding a small ledge to use. Now below the cliffs and across the col we traversed the bump and took a bearing in the direction of what looks to be FR11 on some maps. Although steep, a much easier route going out. The 'road' is overgrown but passible and this took us to Mill Brook Road about 1/4 mile above where we parked. This peak is well protected by cliff bands on three sides. I wish I could have found information on the old fire road that was used to get to the tower by the warden, I'm not one to usually complain but the was an ugly whack.
