| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
We were the first car at Oliverian Brook Trail at 6:30am where there is a descent sized lot for a dozen plus cars and the first car at Pine Bend Brook Trail at 6:45am where there is roadside parking. Don’t be a doofus like me and back into the guardrail. |

| Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow - Wet/Sticky, Mud - Significant, Leaves - Significant/Slippery, Slush |

| Recommended Equipment: |

|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Only the smallest of water crossings on this trail so they were all still hoppable even given the very high water but man were the gushing! |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Pine Bend Brook Trail is blazed in blue before it hits the wilderness boundary. I seem to remember a double yellow blaze above the boundary to mark on odd turn around the brook though. Given the ground conditions (snow, leaves, etc.) the trail was a bit hard to follow once it began the steep ascent. Not many blowdowns that I recall. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
None seen. I would’ve been worried about a dog in those weather conditions but most of the trails we planned to be on would be okay for a hiking dog. Pine Bend Brook shouldn’t offer many issues. |

| Comments: |
Heat Lightning and I were going to attempt a Sandwich Range traverse (Tripyramids, Whiteface, Passaconaway) but unfortunately his hard shell wasn’t keeping him dry so we turned around about 2.5-2.75mi in.
The rain was light when we started at 6:45am and stopped shortly after we turned around which was at 8:30am. The trail was very wet with slick rocks and roots, and some deep puddles. No water running down the trail yet though. The snow started appearing a bit earlier than I anticipated and made for difficult footing and slow going. Had to be a bit careful on our way back down. I’m sure the summits got several inches of snow but I imagine most of it is already melted. What we saw was very wet snow/slush.
There were two more hikers headed up as we were heading down. They’d attempted Saabaday Brook Trail but couldn’t get across the water crossings safely. |
