Road above lot much rougher so hiked from this point for about .7 miles to a camp on the north side of Whitcomb Pond. From here we took a heading towards the col to the east of the peak. Woods not bad but the further up we climbed, the more snow on the ground. Spotted a woods road which appeared to lead up towards the col which we followed until coming to a bump which is apparent on the map. Had originally planned to hike west of it but as we had reached it more to the east side we started around it soon finding ourselves in a boulder field. As we rounded the side of the bump we headed more directly towards our goal. The terrain became much steeper at this point. At a height of land, things leveled off and we climbed up through another col then one more steep climb up to the pointy summit. No jar but FranM came prepared and replaced it. Heading down, we decided to take a route a little more west of our ascent. Walked the ridge then started to head down and came upon lots of moose remains! Glad we chose this route! A bunch of pics then continued on the same heading towards Whitcomb Pond and the camp. Much more gradual descent but lots of boulders this way also. Finally emerged from the woods right at the camp and followed the ATV road back to our cars. Fun hike with FranM and Gordo: Reuben stayed home. |
