Comments
Comments: I had never hiked Owl' Head on Cherry Mountain. I had read it has great views so I decided to hike it today. The views of the Presidential Range from the summit of Owl's Head are wonderful especially when capped with snow. There were five other hikers at the summit. The trail was soupy on the way to the open ledge just south of Owl's Head summit.
The grades were reasonable with the only ledges near the summit. At the lower elevations there was standing water and wet leaves.
The second phase of today's hike was a trip to Cherry Pond. The Slide Brook trail starts across route 115 a short ways north of the Owl's Head parking area. The Slide Brook Trail links route 115 to the Presidential Rail Trail that leads to Waumbek Junction and the Pondicherry network of trails. Great views from the sore of Cherry Pond.
