 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
At the Pumpelly trailhead on Lake Rd. in Dublin. One of only a few cars at 7:30am, but in the afternoon it was apparent that cars parked up and down the road. Hope this trailhead doesn't get closed down next. :( |

 | Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |
|
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
Nothing of note. The brooks and waterfalls along Cascade and Spellman were running strong, which is good to see on this peak, which is normally fairly dry. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Pumpelly is unblazed for the most part. We did accidentally wander off it along the ridge, but as a result found a pretty great outlook. The steeps on Pumpelly heading up to the ridge are succumbing to severe erosion, with several washouts and the trail itself being in a trench. |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
No dogs allowed on Monadnock. |
|
 | Bugs: |
Nope. |
|
 | Lost and Found: |
A few bits of trash which were carried out. |

Hiking Monadnock without "hiking" Monadnock. We headed up Pumpelly, dropped down Cascade Link, then went up the fun scrambles on Spellman, continued up the ridge to just shy of Red Spot, then back down Pumpelly. Skipped the summit completely.
We carried spikes after temps dipped to below freezing here last night, but never needed them. Trails were mainly dry, although Cascade and Spellman had water running down them in places. Fortunately, most of upper Spellman was dry for the very steep ascent. Some minor areas of mud and standing water along the ridge. Lots of water flowing down the mountain right now.
Chilly in the mid-30s when we started, but warmed up nicely later on, with a fairly stiff wind above treeline. |
