 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Sandwich Notch Road north of Algonquin/Beebe road had some pits. Just go slow and SUV will handle fine. South end was smooth sailing other than dodging emergency vehicles. Someone drove their car into a ditch on Algonquin/Beede road. |

Beautiful (and a bit exciting) ride on Sandwich Notch road from the north. As explained in book, the parking is north of the trailhead on Algonquin/Beebe road opposite side and across a bridge. You won't see the trailhead from the parking/road if you come from the north.
Guinea Pond Trail was gorgeous and quiet in the early morning. I enjoyed the solitude and leaves as well as the dewey webs in the marsh. The marsh section was not wet. I continued past Mead trail to the Guinea Pond side trail which is on the left after 3 low water crossings. (2 have side trail but unnecessary now) The pond trail was hard to find in the leaves and I passed it at first. It does get a little wet through the marsh before making it to the pond with view of mountains reflecting. I enjoyed the morning light until I grew paranoid about the moose prints in the mud and decided to not make new friends.
Mead Trail was steady and also quiet on the way up. The summit views were still colorful despite being past peak (10/4). Down low there was still green but early leaves have fallen so from above you can see bare branches among the color. |
