Comments: What a awesome hike! The ledges south of the summit are spectacular as advertised. The wind was cold and howling up there-big thanks to John G. (redliner finisher #11 among many other hiking accomplishments we learned) for the tip on where to escape the wind. We followed his directions all the way to the left (Wild River side) and found the ledges that were 100% sheltered from the wind behind a few pines. Had a great break for Margaret to re-fuel and soak in the glorious views.

The hike was 99.9% dry, but on the descent there were some slick spots due to massive amounts of fallen leaves. We were racing day light so I carried M down a few of the steeper, problematic spots, because I imagine nothing will ruin a great hike quicker than your two-year old taking a digger down a rock staircase. had some great conversations with John, a lady who was 8-months pregnant and had a mother named Margaret, and a group of 6 backpackers headed to Grafton Notch, one of whom went to college in my home state of Kansas (it's flat)!
