This loop is in great shape, rocky in places, but otherwise offers a nice challenge. The foot bed is good, and with the leaves down it is easy to relax and lose track of it. The lower outlook offers better views than the view spur higher up. The pine tree has fallen at the view spur, and a small herd path has begun to form around the left side of the rock. Very filtered views up top there.
I went counter clockwise today, leaving the car at the base area, and walking up Snow's Mtn Road to the trailhead. Gaia was helpful confirmation to make sure I was in the right place, and not trespassing as the start of the trail is at the back of a resident's driveway (AMC 30th edition specifies). There is a small yellow sign typical of WVAIA fashion on a tree to signify the start of the trail, and becomes very obvious after that. Blazing is good, but keep an eye out. At some points it does seem to taper off before becoming frequent again; most of the time the refreshed blazes are painted above the old ones that haven't quite faded, making them look like a turn or junction is coming up...but there are no turns. Thanks Forest Service.
I wrapped up the day with a few of the smaller paths between Snow's and Livermore trail (separate report), and managed to only see on masked mountain biker and a couple. Perfect! |
