Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Water was low, but definitely some rock hopping for the larger water crossings.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trail was beautiful, and in great condition! There were a few blowdowns, but all were easily manageable. Just watch your footing, with the rain, misty weather, and fallen leaves there are a few slick and/or muddy sections on the trails. Be sure to bring your phone (and download map ahead of time) or GPS to follow the Bushwhack trails. The leaves and blowdowns made it a little trickier to follow, but ALL TRAILS app helped manage the trails.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Our three active dogs - lab/collie mutt, coonhound/lab mutt, and small westie had a blast on this hike, and they had no problem climbing up the slide. I recommend the Brutus bushwhack down. Very easy for the dogs, and you don't have worry about loose rocks falling on people ascending.

Comments
Comments: Lincoln Woods Trail to Black Pond BUSHWHACK to Lincoln Brook Trail, up the Owl's Head Slide to the summit. Down the Brutus BUSHWHACK to the Lincoln Brooks Trail, down Franconia Falls Trail, and out the Lincoln Woods Trail.

Fall is the way to go for Owl's Head! It was a magical hike with the leaves changing. Most of this hike is completely flat, so unlike other hikes, most of this hike you don't have to watch your footing and can enjoy your surroundings. The slide is definitely straight up the mountain, but it doesn't last long. I think the longest and most boring stretch is the end of the slide to the summit/pile of rocks and then back to the Brutus Bushwhack. But again, it's a relatively quick 1.2 miles each way. Happy HIKING!
