South Pond Recreation Area is closed due to Covid, so parking at the gate and a 1.3 mile road walk is required currently. Friday's rain made the trail slippery and the stream crossings active.. hadn't seen that in a long while! Fallen leaves hid mossy rocks, roots and mud. Some of the trail is a little brushy in the middle and towards the top, however still easy to follow. Just got wet from all the wet brush from the rain! While it is blazed, a few more would be handy, there were more than a couple points with all the leaves on the ground I felt like I was off trail (I wasn't thankfully) but an extra blaze here and there would have been comforting. Lots of stepover blowdowns and 1 big blowdown requiring a skooch around about 3/4 of the way up. Beautiful views from the top. Found the benchmark marking the true summit. Passed 3 groups of backpackers and 3 groups of day hikers. |
