Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Ripley Falls, Arethusa Falls, NH
Trails
Trails: Ethan Pond Trail, Arethusa-Ripley Falls Trail, Arethusa Falls Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, September 26, 2020
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Spent the previous night at Ethan Pond, but I would assume both of the falls' lots would have been full given the number of people at them.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Leaves - Significant/Slippery
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Crossings are all low and rock hops. No issues at either falls, just be careful with foot placement.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Not much to note other than some of the Ethan Pond bog bridges are in various states of decay. It's so dry it doesn't matter right now though. Arethusa-Ripley between the falls could maybe use some clean up of various blow downs but nothing crazy.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Would be awesome for them. Just be careful on the wet rocks, especially above Ripley Falls.
Bugs
Bugs: Horseflies were biting at Ethan Pond later in the day.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Lots of trash around both falls.

Comments
Comments: Day 2 of the backpacking trip and I filled in some missing redline sections in Crawford Notch. The trail between Ripley and Arethusa is awesome. A little more woodsy in the flat section than anticipated, and not much use. The rapidly falling leaves are going to make finding the trail a bit more challenging, as will snow cover, but it's not bad if you have experience. It looked like this trail sees little use, but that was just fine by me. The climb up away from Ripley Falls is no joke. Pretty rough terrain for the first 0.25 miles or so. Both falls were still beautiful even with the greatly reduced flow.
