Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Everything rock hoppable, including at the old bridge site. Things are very dry.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Mostly in the wilderness area so the level of maintenance is much lower. That being said, the blow downs were mostly inconsequential step overs/duck unders/straddles. There is one impressive birch down just north of the former bridge water crossing, but it's pretty easy to get around. I don't think I saw any blazes until Ethan Pond Trail, but they aren't needed.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Would be ok for them. Althoguh things are dry, this route has many water crossings for them. Also very flat and mostly unchallenging terrain.
Bugs
Bugs: A few things buzzing but not really biting.

Comments
Comments: Day 1 of a 3 day backpack to redline some wilderness trails and view some foliage. Colors did not disappoint as things are pretty peak. Will say that it was odd to see the rivers/brooks/drainages so dry. The washout about halfway through Thoreau Falls Trail could be tricky for some, mostly because it's a steep and loose drop down about 8-10' below the trail, then back up the other side. Not a technical climb, but be ready to scramble in dirt. New or refreshed blazes on Ethan Pond(AT) were a welcome site, not for now but in winter. They will make a big difference, trust me on that one. Really nice day out with very few people, except the couple of larger groups at Thoreau Falls. I was 1 of only 3 occupied tent platforms at Ethan Pond for the night. Still excellent conditions for a quick swim/rinse off in Ethan Pond; sunbathing rocks were key to drying off!
