Plenty of room in the parking area at the trailhead. On a weekend this may not be the case which would require one to park in the winter lot on the south side of US 2 west of Starr King Road.
The access spur to the trailhead has some dips but it is accessible to all vehicle types. |

| Comments: |
The Starr King Trail had moderate grades and good footing so it is perfect to introduce a new hiker to a four thousand foot peak. Good views from the open area of Starr King and at the clearing off the Kilkenny Ridge Trail a stone's throw away from the summit of Mt Waumbek.
Met and talked with many hikers today. The weather was a bit nicer than expected.
Many of the trees were bare or partially bare at the top of the hardwood south slope (just before the traverse). Down lower most of the leaf color was yellow. The spring is dry due to the drought. |
